This is Sean O Driscoll’s bright idea for Waterford.

Community garden which means a healthier diet, exercise and involvement of the whole family.

Community gardens in Waterford and Wexford, building the infustructure and running QQI accredit training.

  • Module working in Portlaw, Dungarvan and Taghmon in Wexford. Mirroring Ballybeg Model.
  • Local people growing their own food, introducing their children to the same as well as exercise, interaction between people, healthier diet, breaking down social barriers and utilizing waste ground.
  • Starting off with a Landscape Construction course one day a week for 20 weeks.
  • Progressing to level 3 and level 4 in Vegetable Crop production over a period of 30 weeks.

So bringing together a community for 50 weeks building a bond within the group. The model is a great community builder with participants gaining the benefits of healthy food, exercise, education while enhancing and learning new skills.

It has potential to start a social enterprise growing seasonal veg for local restaurants or just producing fresh food for their family and friends to consume.
