This is Peter McVerry Trust’s bright idea for Dublin.

Skills training in the construction industry for young people accessing homeless services.

HOW WE WILL SPEND THE MONEY

The initiative will provide access to training across a broad range of entry level construction skills to individuals accessing homeless services.

Training will be supported by mentorship to assist individuals in sourcing & securing apprenticeships & ultimately long term employment; opening doors to work in the construction industry. Peter McVerry Trust will leverage existing relationships within the construction industry to develop a bespoke training programme at a technical academy in Dublin.

The programme will provide a cross section of skills & courses across key areas of the construction industry; with the objective that participants will secure accredited qualifications in order to secure entry level employment through apprenticeships in the construction industry.

Participants will receive safe pass training to enable them to train within the industry, as well as appropriate clothing and tools to facilitate work within the industry. Peter McVerry Trust will provide transport to the training facility in Dublin 22.

The initiative will provide opportunity to enter the workforce, while addressing resource deficiencies within the construction industry itself.
