CB1’s bright idea for Limerick was a 2015 winner.

To develop a city centre community space with a volunteer run coffee dock, meeting place, gallery, garden, artist studio and venue.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

We caught up with the CB1 Gallery which received €7,000 last year in funding from KBC towards the development of a city centre volunteer-run community space and found everything has been going really well.

“The money we received from Bright Ideas has helped us to create a coffee dock in our community gallery space so that people can come in and meet others for a chat and also hold community events there.

HOW THEY SPENT IT

CB1 Gallery are also collaborating with the Limerick Civic Trust on plans to renovate the old boiler space to turn it into a space for a community artist.

The Civic Trust will undertake the labour and the money from KBC Bright Ideas will fund the materials.

They also have plans to improve the garden space by collaborating with people who already use the building they are in.

“We were delighted to receive funding from KBC Bright Ideas – it was a real boost to our community gallery and the people who use the space.”

CB1 Gallery are always trying to improve what they offer and the money received has contributed significantly towards that goal.

The building is a hub for people from all walks of life and with diverse backgrounds and the new café space allows them to come together in an informal environment.

CB1 Gallery recommend to other community groups to apply for Bright Ideas funding this year, saying they found the whole experience to be really positive and inspiring.
