Biodiversity and sustainability learning experience for 4-12 year old children in Glounthaune.

WHAT THEY PLANNED TO DO

Provision of a free of charge ecotrail adjacent to an existing Children’s Playground in an overgrown area between the estuarine mudflats and the railway with:

Butterfly friendly garden, sensory herb garden, bug hotel and other insect friendly installations, bird, bat and owl boxes and feeders, fairy trail and fairy houses, migratory bird observation signage, stand of labelled native Irish trees, ecotrail signage and explanatory leaflet and map.

The ecotrail will provide a signposted trail allowing visitors hands-on access and explanatory signage and leaflet/map.

The prime target group are primary school pupils which number 3,660 in the 10 National Schools within an 8km radius.
